Executive Director, Michelle Cammon, doing what she does best.
During this workshop, students will reflect on the 20/21 school year, identify the challenges they faced, identify their wins, and gain strategies on how to set fresh goals.
Despite decisions made by school administrators, students need to be prepared to manage their education. Student agency relates to the student having an active role in their learning through voice, and often a choice, in the process. During this workshop, students will discuss how they can activate student agency and determine how education will impact their lives.
Academic success is essential, but students need to also build good character if they want to become successful in the real world. During this workshop, students will evaluate the character of super-heroes, then use the same method/standard to evaluate their own character. This exercise, will allow students to distinguish between how they want to show up in the world versus how they are actually showing up in the world. As a result, students can use the results of their analysis to align their character with specific goals, values, and beliefs.
Think about the moments when you were challenged the most, think about the times you were forced to grow and change. Were those the moments when you were exposed to something new, creative, interesting? Or maybe the moments when you were exposed to something that resonated with your imagination, talents, dreams, or goals? During this workshop, students will discuss what “exposure leads to expansion” means to them, learn about the various resources available to help them achieve their goals, and identify areas of the their lives where they are thriving and areas in their lives that need improvement.
Have you ever questioned what the word ‘success’ means specifically for you? Most people have a narrow definition of what success means. It involves power, influence, being known by others, going to the right college, working in the right industry, having enough money — ie. lots of money — to buy an endless stream of things. This definition has led students to believe that if they do not achieve those things in life, they will not be successful. Before students begin their journey to success, it is important that they establish their own definition. During this workshop students will evaluate society’s definition of success, then redefine success for themselves.
"Proper preparation prevents poor performance" - Jim Baker. We are still in the COVID-19 pandemic. What happens next, goes beyond our control. However, during moments of uncertainty, we can also prepare for what we know to be certain. We are certain that schools will reopen. We are certain that the state curriculum and standards will be the same. During this workshop, students will prepare for the upcoming school year. They will receive tips and strategies to help them return to in-person learning and distance learning.
